Announcing the Sixteenth Annual David C. Driskell Distinguished Lecture in the Visual Arts Series in Honor of David C. Driskell

Thelma Golden has served as the Director and Chief Curator of The Studio Museum in Harlem, New York City since 2005; previously, she served as a curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art from 1988 to 1998. Golden is an active guest curator, writer, lecturer, juror, and advisor. Golden’s work as a curator has been nationally recognized since the 1990s, and during her time as the Director and Chief Curator of the Studio Museum, the institution has gained international attention for its innovative exhibitions and recognition as a cultural cornerstone of Harlem. This lecture will coincide with the James A. Porter Colloquium on African American Art, organized by Howard University, scheduled for April 7-9, 2017. The Colloquium’s theme this year is “Interventions, Ruptures and Affirmations: Archival Engagements in African American Art and Art of the African Diaspora.”
