Message From The Dean: Holton Contract Extension

Driskell Center Interim Executive Director Curlee Holton contract extended to June 30, 2014.
Dean Bonnie Thornton Dill:
I’m writing to inform you that I have extended Curlee Holton’s term by one year, ending June 30, 2014. Curlee has held the position of Interim Executive Director for the David C. Driskell Center since July 2012.
Curlee has done an excellent job transitioning into the leadership role at the Driskell Center. He has continued to carry out the dynamic mission of the center, and I’m excited to support him in achieving the key projects he’s initiated this academic year.
Curlee stepped into the job with ambitious goals to establish the center as a national leader among the long standing community of American and African American Arts institutions. Since starting, he is credited with actively pursuing strategic on and off campus partnerships and aligning the assets of the center with institutional objectives.
Over the next year and a half, he will continue to oversee important work of the center, including the development of a five year strategic plan; the successful transition of the newly acquired Baccus collection of 252 works of art valued at $2.2 million bequeathed by the Baccus Estate; the stewardship of new and dynamic streams of revenue; and the development of a national Ambassador’s Outreach Program.
Extending the term by an additional year, for a total of two years, provides Curlee with the opportunity to build on the momentum of his first year on the job and also provides the center with continuity.
Holton is currently the David M. and Linda Roth Professor of Art and Founding Director of the Experimental Printmaking Institute (EPI) at Lafayette College in Easton, PA. An artist-scholar, Holton is an internationally renowned printmaker and painter whose work has been exhibited professionally for over 25 years in more than 40 one-person shows and over 80 group shows in such prestigious national and international venues as the 7th International Biennale in Cairo, Egypt; Taller de Artes Plasticás Rufino Tamayo in Oaxaca, Mexico; the Cleveland Museum of Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
