Art Exhibition: "[Un]Common Collections" Opening Reception

David C. Driskell Center for the Visual Arts and Culture of African Americans and the African Diaspora Thursday, September 19, 2019 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm The David C. Driskell Center,

Join us for an Opening Reception for [Un] Common Collections on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at 5PM.

[Un]Common Collections includes 64 works spanning from 1860 to 2018 selected from the collections of dedicated collectors of African American art. The curators, Professor Curlee R. Holton and Dorit Yaron, respectively the Center’s Executive and Deputy Directors, selected four works from each collection focusing on diversity in mediums, styles, periods, subject matters, and themes.

By showcasing selected works from those collections, the Driskell Center hopes to highlight each collector’s approach to collecting, explore each collector’s legacy, and encourage others, especially young collectors, to follow their example.

A brochure will highlight each collector and collection, including a short description of the collection and the reasons/motivations behind its assemblage.
