Title: Deputy Director
As some of you already know, after serving as the David C. Driskell Center’s Executive Director for
almost eight years, I have made the difficult decision to retire. I am pleased that the Center has
reached a high level of national and international recognition as a leader in the field of African
American visual arts while continuing to honor the life and career of its founder, Distinguished
Professor of Art, David C. Driskell.
The Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities, Dr. Bonnie Thornton Dill, formed a Search
Committee to select my successor. Attached is the Dean’s announcement with a link to the job
description and application. The Center has reached an important moment in its history while
celebrating its 10th anniversary; I have no doubts that the selected successor will shape the Center’s
future and bring it to new heights.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank each one of you for your on-going support of the
Center. I enjoyed working with you and hope to keep seeing you and your friends at the Center’s
Dr. Robert E. Steele
